The Community Center, Nature Center, Senior Center and Bocce Barn will be closed on Oct. 13 for a staff in-service day. Community Center and Senior Center will reopen at 5 p.m. for evening activities on Oct. 13.

Sterling Frights

Saturday, Oct. 18 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. No registration required.

Meet us in Dodge Park on Oct. 18 for a spook-tacular Sterling Frights event. Show up in your best costume and enjoy live music, hay rides, a straw maze, crafts, trick or treating, photo opportunities, inflatables, rides, cider and donuts, and more! Best of all, Sterling Frights is free to attend for Sterling Heights residents.

Saturday, Oct. 18 from 5-8 p.m. Register online by Oct. 17.

Gather this Halloween season for a night of music, drinks, food, roller skating and hayrides. Sterling Frights is not just for the kids anymore! Each registration will include inclusive access under the Farmers Market Pavilion, two adult beverage tickets, one food voucher, music and roller skating / blading under the market (roller skates/blades must be brought by the registrants. Skate rental is not available). Costumes encouraged.

Haunted House - Artist Inside

Saturday, Oct. 11 from 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Register online by Oct. 7.

Discover your inner artist while learning new techniques and designs. Each class offers a new project allowing artists to create a masterpiece that they can take home. These art classes are guided and no experience is required. Open to all ages and abilities. Fees include supplies, guidance, and themed treats! Step into a world where shadows dance and creativity comes alive! Our Haunted House Painting Class invites you to conjure up your own eerie masterpiece in a setting filled with spine-tingling charm and artistic magic.

Soup's On - Prep Like a Pro

Tuesday, Oct. 21 from 6-7 p.m. Register online by Oct. 17.

This program guides chefs of all experience levels through the basics of food preparation. Bolster your independence while gaining valuable knowledge for both in and out of the kitchen including knife safety skills, motor skills, problem solving skills, confidence and more!

Warm your heart - and your kitchen - in this cozy, hands-on cooking class dedicated entirely to soup! From classic comfort bowls to globally inspired flavors, you'll learn essential soup-making techniques and build rich, flavorful recipes. Each participant will take home their concoctions to enjoy. Main ingredients will be provided, you will just need to add your choice of protein at home.

Community Blood Drive

Help spread the love by donating blood at our upcoming Community Blood Drive on Oct. 21 from 2:30 - 7 p.m. at the Community Center. Walk-ins welcome as schedule allows but appointments are preferred.

Hocus Pocus - Adaptive Recreation Dance

Friday, Oct. 24 from 6-9 p.m. Register online by Oct. 23.

Dust off your broomstick and put on your spookiest costume - it's time to boogie at the most haunted dance party in town! The evening will feature haunting beats, cool costumes, spooky dance moves, and a bunch of Hocus Pocus. Two slices of pizza and a beverage will be served to all participants. One lucky ghoul, goblin, or witch will walk away with a spellbinding prize. Tickets will not be sold at the door.

Halloween Havoc - Teen Night Out

Friday, Oct. 24 from 7-9 p.m. Register online by Oct. 22.

Get ready for an evening of spell-binding activities to experience the excitement of the Halloween season. Pizza and pop will be included. 

Halloween "Candy-Palooza" Bingo

Saturday, Oct. 25 from 12-2 p.m. Register online by Oct. 22.

BOO! Come out for a fun-filled Halloween Bingo event with a few tricks and lots of treats provided! Our event will feature five games of bingo, prizes and refreshments. Pre-registration is required, and costumes are encouraged, yet optional.

Nature Center

Zombie Survival

Saturday, Oct. 11 from 12-3 p.m. Register online by Oct. 10.

Embark on a playful survival adventure where nature skills meet imaginative fun! In this action-packed afternoon, kids will learn how to build their own outdoor shelters using natural materials, discover how to read and create trail signs, and test their aim with beginner-friendly archery practice led by certified instructors. Then, they'll put their new wilderness skills to the test in a lighthearted (and very silly) zombie survival scenario.

October Home School: Fall Colors & Animal Prep

Tuesday, Oct. 14 from 2-4 p.m. Register online by Oct. 13.

Learn the science behind leaf colors and pigments, and discover how animals prepare for winter with hibernation, migration, and food storage.

Spooky Slime Lab

Saturday, Oct. 25 from 10 - 11:30 a.m. Register online by Oct. 24.

Get ready for a delightfully spooky sensory experience! In this hands-on program, children will concoct their own glow-in-the-dark "bog slime" using safe, squishy ingredients mixed with pretend creepy crawlies like plastic bugs and seasonal scents like cinnamon, clove, and pumpkin spice!

Senior Center

Halloween Hootenanny

Friday, Oct. 24 from 11:30 a.m. - 2:15 p.m. Register online by Oct. 8.

Calling all Disco Draculas, line dancing leopards and pop 'n' lockin pumpkins. Grab dancing shoes and your favorite costume and come prepared for a howling good time. High Fidelity Sounds will be spinning spooktacular beats and a catered lunch will be provided. Costumes are encouraged but not necessity. Grab a friend and sign up early! All are welcome!

AARP Driver Safety Course

Oct. 27 and 28 from 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Register in person at the Senior Center.

The AARP Driver Safety Course is specifically designed for drivers ages 50 and older. You'll learn the current rules of the road, defensive driving techniques and how to operate your vehicle more safely in today's increasingly challenging driving environment. Learn techniques for handling left turns, right of way and roundabouts. This eight-hour (2 days for 4 hour each day) Driver Safety Program is a classroom course geared to help mature drivers improve their safe driving techniques, navigate dangerous road conditions and avoid accidents. Participants who complete the course will receive a certificate which may be used for insurance discounts offered by some insurers.
