Notice is hereby given that a public hearing will be held by the Sterling Heights City Council on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at 7 p.m. within City Council Chambers, located at 40555 Utica Road, Sterling Heights, MI, 48313. The public hearing is being held to receive comments from citizens and consider the adoption of a resolution supporting the partial conversion of grant assisted land to retain the Sterling Heights Police Department’s K9 Training Area inside L.W. Baumgartner Park, located at 13000 Fifteen Mile Road, Sterling Heights, Michigan, 48312.
L.W. Baumgartner Park was developed in 1969 with funding from the Land & Water Conservation Fund, which is administered federally through the National Park Service and locally through the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. When converting a portion or all of grant assisted property to a use other than as originally intended when grant funds were received, the National Park Service and Michigan Department of Natural Resources require public input on the proposed changes to the grant assisted property and the proposed mitigation property.
A copy of the draft conversion plan is available for public review and can be downloaded from the home page on the City website, at sterlingheights.gov. A hard copy is also available for public inspection at the Parks & Recreation Department Offices, located in the Community Center at 40250 Dodge Park Road, Sterling Heights, MI, 48313. Any comments on the draft plan can be submitted by mail to the Parks and Recreation Department at the address above or by e-mail to recreation@sterlingheights.gov.
