MYSHPR September Events

Building Closures

The Community Center, Nature Center, Senior Center and Bocce Barn will be closed Saturday, Aug. 30 and Sunday, Aug. 31. Butterfly Conservatory will remain open Saturday and Sunday for normal hours. Dodge Park Splash Pad will remain open during regular hours on Saturday, Aug. 30. The Splash Pad will also be open during regular hours on Sunday, Aug. 31.

On Monday, Sept. 1, the Dodge Park Splash Pad will open early at 10 a.m. to celebrate its final day of the season.

Doggy Splash Pawty

Thursday, Sept. 4 from 5 - 8:30 p.m. Register online by Aug. 31.

Join us for the ulti-mutt pawty at the Dodge Park Splash Pad, a free bonus event for current dog park pass holders through the Sterling Heights Parks and Recreation Dog Park. Pet owners/handlers must be 18 years of age or older to attend. Anyone 16 & 17 years of age must be accompanied by a legal guardian. A maximum of two guest 16 years or older allowed per registered pass holder. The Splash Pad will not be open to children under the age of 16 during this event, but your furry, four-legged friends are welcome to enjoy the water! 

Roller Nights

Tuesday, Sept. 9 from 5-8 p.m. No registration required.

Get rollin' this summer under the Dodge Park Farmers Market Pavilion with our monthly Roller Nights event. Roller skaters/bladers, skateboarders, bikes and more are invited to come out and skate with live DJ entertainment and food from local food trucks. Roller Nights is free to attend.

Crafts on the Clinton

Friday Sept. 19 from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. Purchase tickets online.

Hosted in partnership with the Clinton River Watershed Council, Crafts on the Clinton is a fun-filled evening that features beer and wine tasting with live music, delicious food, and art vendors on the banks of the Clinton River! This is a special opportunity to sample the very best local beer and wine from across the state.

Prep Like a Pro - How 'Bout Them Apples?

Tuesday, Sept. 16 from 6-7 p.m. Register online by Sept. 12.

From tart Granny Smiths to sweet Honeycrisps, this cooking class is a celebration of everything apple. Learn how to transform this versatile fruit into comforting classics and unexpected creations - one delicious bite at a time. Each participant will take home their concoctions to enjoy. Main ingredients will be provided; you will just need to add your choice of protein (if needed) at home. This class is inclusive and designed for all ages and abilities.

Community Blood Drive

Help spread the love by donating blood at our upcoming Community Blood Drive on Sept. 16 from 2:30 - 7 p.m. at the Community Center. Walk-ins welcome as schedule allows but appointments are preferred.

Calling All Superheroes - Adaptive Recreation Dance

Friday, Sept. 19 from 6-9 p.m. Register online by Sept. 18.

Whether you're swinging from webs, flying through the skies, or just rocking an epic cape, join us for a action-packed evening of epic beats, legendary moves, and heroic fun! Two slices of pizza and a beverage will be served to all participants. Accompanying staff, parent, and guardian registration fee is $6 and includes food and dancing as well. Superhero gear is encouraged; masks not permitted.

Adaptive Diners Club

Monday, Sept. 29 from 6-7:30 p.m. Register online by Sept. 22.

Join us once a month for good food and better friends! This opportunity is designed to support community members with disabilities. Participants will have the opportunity to enhance their independence and social skills by meeting at a predetermined location and enjoying a meal together. Participants are responsible for the cost of their meal, beverage and tip. Restaurant locations will be emailed prior to each event.

Nature Center

Back to School with a Magic Touch

Saturday, Sept. 6 from from 4:30 - 7:30 p.m. Register online.

Before the school year begins, join us for an evening of whimsy, wonder and wild creatures at the Community Garden! Inspired by enchanted tales of magical zoology, this all-ages event features wand-making, mythical creature encounters, scavenger hunts and hands-on activities like mini beast adoptions and potion crafting. Come in costume, explore the Nature Lab and enjoy magical treats in our enchanted tea lounge!

Toadstool Tea Party

Saturday, Sept. 13 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Register online.

Step into a cozy enchanted wonderland for a whimsical tea party inspired by forest creatures and fairy tales. Enjoy juice “tea,” mini treats, nature crafts and enchanting stories. Costumes, fairy wings or silly hats encouraged!

Nature Center Adventures - Teen Night Out

Friday, Sept. 26 from 7-9 p.m. Register online by Sept. 23.

Enjoy a variety of nature-related events with our trained Nature Center staff. The evening may include: animal encounters, archery, hiking and more! Activities to be held indoors and outdoors at the Sterling Heights Nature Center. Dress for the weather. Drop off and pick up from the Nature Center.

Senior Center

Puzzle Palooza

Wednesday, Sept. 3 at 10:30 a.m. Register in person at the Senior Center.

Members will be put into groups and compete to be the first team to complete their jigsaw puzzle. This is a members only event.

50+ Extended Travel Presentations

Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 2 p.m. No registration required.

Join us for a presentation for our upcoming trip: Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks. Representatives from Collette will discuss what traveler's should expect on each trip and answer audience questions.

Library Book Fair at the Senior Center

Wednesday, Sept. 10 from 9 a.m. - Noon. No registration required.

Daytime Concert Series

Grab your friends and family or come on your own to enjoy an hour of great entertainment during our Daytime Concert Series! Programs will be held at either the Senior Center or Farmers Market Pavilion, keeping us covered rain or shine!
