Summer is in full swing at #MYSHPR.

Recreation on the Run

Mondays, June 16 - Aug. 18 from 3-5 p.m. No registration required. More info.

#MYSHPR is bringing the fun and games to our neighborhood parks this summer, allowing for resident children and adults to develop meaningful connections with one another and with city employees through various crafts and activities. Every week the site location will change, but the time will remain the same (3-5 p.m.). This program is free for everyone and open to all ages!

Community Garden

Adaptive Gardening Club

Mondays, June 23 - Aug. 18 from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. Register online by June 20.

The Adaptive Gardening Club is rooted in the idea of bringing people together through the joy or gardening. Whether you're a green thumb or just sprouting an interest, this club is a place for everyone to grow their skills. Participants will engage in hands-on activities like planting, harvesting, and collaborative garden projects, all in a supportive and encouraging environment. Designed for individuals with disabilities, the club promotes skill-building, social engagement, and the therapeutic benefits of gardening, fostering a sense of community and connection to nature.

Dodge Park Thursdays return starting June 5 and we’re celebrating 50 years of Music in the Park presented by Genisys Credit Union! Join us every Thursday for live music, Farmers Market, Patios 'n' Pints with Connect Macomb, good vibes, and community fun in the heart of Sterling Heights. 

Roller Nights

Tuesday, June 17 from 5-8 p.m.

Get rollin' this summer under the Dodge Park Farmers Market Pavilion with our monthly Roller Nights event. Roller skaters/bladers, skateboarders, bikes and more are invited to come out and skate with live DJ entertainment and food from local food trucks. Roller Nights is free to attend.

Community Center

Splish Splash Summer Fun Bingo

Saturday, June 7 from 12 - 1:30 p.m. Register online by May 30.

Join us for a summertime themed bingo event at the Community Center! Our event will feature five games of bingo, prizes and refreshments. Pre-registration is required.

Home Alone Safety

Wednesday, June 11 from 6-8 p.m. Register online by June 6.

Our class will prepare children and their parents in making the first steps toward independence and being at home without adult supervision. Class is designed to teach participants how to answer phone calls, recognize hazards, respond during severe weather and power outages, basic first aid, along with fire and pool safety. Home Alone Safety is taught by members of the Sterling-Heights Fire and Police Departments.

Esports Summer Camp

Fridays, June 20 - July 18 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Register online by June 17.

Campers will enjoy interacting and playing PC, Switch, and PS5 games in a controlled setting. Each day campers will participate in supervised and scheduled activities lead by our dedicated Esports Camp Councilors. Esports Camp will allow for small snack breaks but will not be providing lunch.

Community Blood Drive

Tuesday, June 24 from 2:30 - 7 p.m. Schedule an appointment.

Help spread the love by donating blood at our upcoming Community Blood Drive on June 24 from 2:30 - 7 p.m. at the Community Center. Walk-ins welcome as schedule allows but appointments are preferred.

Teen Night Out at The Painted Pot

Friday, June 27 from 1:30 - 5 p.m. Register online by June 20.

Enjoy an afternoon of creativity and fun! We will be painting our own take-home pottery piece at The Painted Pot in Rochester. Next, we will enjoy an ice cream treat at Coaches Ice Cream in Sterling Heights. Bus will depart Community Center at 1:30 p.m. and return at approximately 5 p.m.

Green Thumb Academy

Saturday, June 21 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Register online by June 14.

Welcome budding gardeners of all ages to dive into the world of horticulture. Whether you're a novice or have a bit of dirt under your nails, this program offers something for everyone. Participants will gain hands-on experience in planting seeds, understanding soil health and nurturing plants to their full potential. Our expert instructors will guide you through the essential techniques of watering, pruning and pest management, ensuring your garden flourishes in every season. Not only will you leave with practical skills, but you'll also cultivate a deeper connection to nature and a newfound appreciation for the growth process. Join us and watch your green thumb develop as you bring vibrant life to your garden space!

Great Outdoor Backyard Campout

Saturday, June 28 - Sunday, June 29. Register online by June 25.

Join us for an unforgettable summer camp out with the Sterling Heights Nature Center at Dodge Park! Embrace the great outdoors as we engage in a variety of exciting activities designed for adventurers of all ages. From guided nature walks and wildlife observation to fun-filled games and crafts, there's something for everyone to enjoy. As the sun sets, gather around the campfire for an evening of camaraderie, where you'll learn the art of campfire cooking and enjoy delicious s'mores under the stars. Afterward, immerse yourself in the wonder of star gazing, guided by experts who will help you identify constellations and celestial wonders. With the beauty of nature surrounding you and opportunities for exploration and connection, this campout promises to be a memorable experience that celebrates the joys of summer and the great outdoors!

Summer Solstice Walk

Friday, June 20 from 7:30 - 9 p.m. Register online by June 13.

Celebrate the longest day of the year with a serene evening walk through our nature trails. As the sun sets, immerse yourself in the beauty of the transforming light and listen to the chorus of evening wildlife. Our knowledgeable guides will share insights about the solstice traditions and the unique changes in the natural world during this time of year.

Senior Center

Grand Connections – Grand Garden Experience

Tuesday, June 17 from 10 - 11:30 a.m. Register online by June 5.

Share in the joy of gardening with your grand! Create a self-watering milk jug garden planter and learn about taking care of your mini garden all summer long! Each participant will create a planter and have their choice of seedlings to add to it. 

Daytime Concert Series

Grab your friends and family or come on your own to enjoy an hour of great entertainment during our Daytime Concert Series! Programs will be held at either the Senior Center or Farmers Market Pavilion, keeping us covered rain or shine!
