We’re in for a snow lot of fun at #MYSHPR this month! From video games and a cozy pajama party to ice skating and movie nights, there's so much to choose from to kick off the new year.  

Community Center

Dodge Park Ice Rink Special Events

Join us at the Dodge Park Ice Rink for special events planned throughout our winter season! Check out the full lineup.

Esports

Thursdays, Jan. 9 - Feb. 13 from 6-8:30 p.m. Register online by Jan. 7.

Get your head in the game with our Super Smash Bro’s League – Jr. Division for ages 7-13. Enjoy 6 weeks of head-to-head matchups, special rules play and an end of league tournament. Prizes will be awarded to first and second place finishers.

Cozy PJ Party - Adaptive Recreation Dance

Friday, Jan. 10 from 6-9 p.m. Register online by Jan. 9.

Get ready for a cozy night of fun, where the dress code is all about comfort and the smiles are endless! Two slices of pizza and a beverage will be served to all participants. 

Northern Lights Watercolor

Saturday, Jan. 11 from 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Register online by Jan. 8.

Experience the magic of the aurora borealis in our Northern Lights Painting Art Class! Using watercolor paints, you'll learn techniques to capture the ethereal glow of the northern lights, along with blending and layering methods to create depth and movement in your artwork. Artist Inside classes are guided so no experience is required. Open to all ages and abilities.

Little Learners

New sessions begin the week of Jan. 13. Register online.

Learn, create and explore with your little one in our early childhood room designed with our youngest residents in mind! Each class will help to develop motor skills, sensory exploration, literacy, following directions, listening, peer interaction, and more! We offer a variety of classes for children ages 12 months – 6 years of age. Our experienced instructor will provide a fun environment for learning and socialization.

Five Nights at Freddy’s (FNAF)

Saturday, Jan. 18 from 6-9:30 p.m. Register online by Jan. 17.

Calling all teens! Round up all of your friends for this special movie night at the Community Center featuring "Five Nights at Freddy's". Our FNAF themed evening we include treats, a scavenger hunt, pizza and of course, a movie. The Esports arena room will also be available if you'd like to try to play the game the movie was made after. Pre-movie activities start at 6 p.m. with the movie beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Nature Center

Naturalist for a Night

Wednesday, Jan. 29 from 6:30-7:45 p.m. Register online by Jan. 27.

Experience the hands-on excitement of caring for our animals at the Nature Center! This is your chance to roll up your sleeves and take part in feeding the animals yourself, guided by our expert staff. Discover each animals unique needs and the vital role your involvement plays into their health and happiness.

Winter Walk About

Wednesday, Jan. 15 from 6-7 p.m. Register online by Jan. 14.

Embrace the chill of the season with a Winter Walk at the Nature Center! Join us for a guided hike where we will explore the unique winter adaptations of plants and animals in their cold weather habitats. If weather permits, participants will learn how to identify animal tracks in the snow, listen for calls of winter birds, and experience the tranquility of the forest in the quietest season.

Senior Center

Service Project: Helping the Homeless

Tuesday, Jan. 7 from 4-7 p.m. and Tuesday, Jan. 21 from 1-4 p.m.

Volunteers will prepare plarn (plastic yarn) that will be crocheted into mats for the homeless. Help us by sorting and cutting plastic grocery bags into strips. 

Secretary of State Mobile Office

Thursday, Jan. 16 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

The Secretary of State is bringing its services to the Senior Center for one day only! No more long wait times at the S.O.S office. Simply make an appointment to complete your transactions including State I.D. or driver's license renewal, title transfers, disability placards and more. Call the Senior Center at (586) 446-2750 to schedule an appointment.

AARP Driver Safety - Smart Driver Course

Jan. 22 & 23 from 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Register in-person at the Senior Center.

The AARP Driver Safety Course is specifically designed for drivers ages 50+. Learn the current rules of the road, defensive driving techniques, how to operate your vehicle more safely in today’s increasingly challenging driving environment and more. Participants who complete the course will receive a certificate which may be used for insurance discounts offered by some insurers. 

Book Fair with the Sterling Heights Public Library

Wednesday, Jan. 29 from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
