Historical Collection & Displays

The Sterling Heights Historical Commission accepts items for the Sterling Heights Historical Collection that depict the growth and change within this municipality since its inception as a township in 1835. Recognizing that today's events will be tomorrow's history, modern items judged to be of permanent value will be considered.

The Commission encourages and will consider items which fall into the following categories, although it will not be limited by these categories:

  • Maps, photographs, and documents relating to personal, business, educational, cultural, and recreational activities.
  • Household accessories and personal artifacts from 1860 to 1900.

Items collected will be preserved and displayed at the Upton House Museum.

The Historical Commission also arrange displays periodically in the Upton House. Tours have been available for residents to enjoy exhibits of antique Christmas ornaments, vintage needlecrafts, and military memorabilia. Residents are encouraged to participate by lending items for display. If you have a display that you would be willing to lend, please call the library at 586-446-2640.
