Duties & Responsibilities
Under the leadership of the Community Relations Director, the Community Relations Department provides accurate information to the public through all means of communication. The Community Relations Office is responsible for Marketing and Communications, Broadcast Services, and Resident Engagement/Services.
Marketing and Communications
Marketing and Communications for the City include: branding and storytelling, the City Magazine issued three times per year, media relations, advertising, social media (including Facebook, Instagram), the City’s website, promotional videos, podcasts and more.
Public Information
Community Relations serves as the public information contact in the event of Emergency Operation Center activation. It is responsible for emergency press releases, speeches, press conferences, and coordination of rumor control.
Resident Engagement and Services
Resident Services staff are available for residents to contact regarding any concern or need for City information, either in person at the Community Relations department in City Hall, by phone at 586-446-CITY, by email at cityhall@sterlingheights.gov or through the City’s SeeClickFix issue reporting system. Residents are welcomed and encouraged to share their feedback, volunteer and simply become more engaged with their City!
Broadcast Services
The Broadcast Services, or Sterling Heights Television (SHTV), is responsible for the City Hall and Library public access channels. Each station offers residents an alternative to keep informed of the workings of Sterling Heights government. Residents can watch SHTV on channels 5, 10 or 99. Broadcast Services also compiles multi-media productions for broadcast on the Internet and YouTube Channel SHTV1 as well as a series of podcasts including Talk'n the Beat.
Economic Development Assistance
Marketing and Communications staff assists the Economic Development Advisor with activities to promote general development in the City and proposes policies that produce a better community in which to live, work, and play.

On occasion, staff of the Community Relations, Library, and Parks & Recreation Departments may take photographs or videos of participants in our programs, parks, and/or special events. Please be aware that these are for the departments' use in future brochures, pamphlets, promotional material, social media platforms, press releases or for our local public access channel SHTV. If object to having photos of you or your family used for future publications, please notify the photographer at the time the photo or video is taken.
