Unveiling New Public Art at the Community Garden
We kicked off July celebrating art, sustainability, and community at James C. Nelson Park with a ribbon cutting to unveil a new public art installation at our Community Garden! The installation features a swing and bench made from upcycled wind turbine blades and a hand-painted mural by local artist Brook Lyn Lamb, and a vibrant pizza garden mural by Michigan artist Ammy Amorette.
Commissioned in partnership with the Sterling Heights Arts Commission, these colorful additions aren’t just beautiful—they’re built to inspire, educate, and connect. From learning where pizza toppings come from to relaxing on a swing that once helped power a city, this space brings creativity and community full circle.
Come visit and see how we’re planting the seeds of imagination and sustainability right here in Sterling Heights!

Nature Center Bridge Project
The Nature Center Bridge just got an upgrade! After necessary repairs and upgrades to the bridge and landing areas, this well-loved crossing is officially back in business.
Stretching over the Clinton River and connecting miles of trails, this bridge enhances accessibility and leisure for all residents. This improvement helps strengthen our parks and trail system while supporting long term health, mobility, and well-being of our residents.
Thank you to the Sterling Heights Parks & Recreation team, Engineering team, City Council, and City staff for their commitment to creating safe, accessible, and connected parks. Their work on this project rebuilt both bridge ends and reinforced the center span, preserving the trail’s charm while making it safer, sturdier, and ready to welcome residents for years to come!

The first day of Sterlingfest brought the heat, and you brought the energy to match!
Despite the blazing sun and soaring temperatures, families and friends weaved through the art fair as the sounds of jazz and blues set the mood in the background. It was family fun galore at the Sterlingfest Midway and Kidz Tent, and 21+ fun at the beer tent under the Suds 'n' Sound pavilion.
Elektrik Dream took to the Main Stage, and after a brief rain delay, George Michael REBORN closed out the first night in style.
