[ARCHIVED] Sterling Heights Public Library Revs Up Book Borrowing with New Mobile Library

Mobile Library

The Sterling Heights Public Library is proud to announce the debut of its brand-new Mobile Library, an exciting outreach initiative designed to bring the Library’s resources and love of reading directly into the community. The Mobile Library will officially be introduced during the Sterling Heights City Council meeting on Tuesday, May 6. On that night, the Mobile Library will be staged in the circle drive in front of City Hall at 6:30 p.m. where staff will be giving out bookmarks, buttons, flyers and more.

This summer, residents can catch the Mobile Library in action every Wednesday at Dodge Park and along the trails, as well as at several special events throughout the City. The Mobile Library’s first major appearance will be at the Summer Reading Program Kickoff Party on Monday, June 16, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Library, followed by a family-friendly evening scavenger hunt. The Summer Reading Program will run from June 16 to July 30. Additionally, the Mobile Library will join the Dodge Park Farmers Market once a month on Thursdays, when the Library is in attendance.

Funded by the Friends of the Sterling Heights Public Library and the Sterling Heights Area Community Foundation, the Mobile Library is more than just a traveling book hub. It will serve as a vibrant, community-based platform to promote library programs, services, and literacy efforts. Visitors can expect to find free bookmarks, buttons, program flyers, information about library services, and free paperback books provided by the Friends' Used, but Sterling Bookstore.

“The Mobile Library allows us to reach residents in new and engaging ways,” said Sterling Heights Library Director Tammy Turgeon. “It’s an extension of our mission to provide lifelong learning and enrichment opportunities for everyone in Sterling Heights.”

Looking ahead, the library plans to expand Mobile Library visits to local schools, additional city parks, and various city events, making it a lasting fixture in community outreach.
