[ARCHIVED] Sterling Heights Looking for Public Art Design for Fire Station Clock Tower

Fire Station 1 Clock Tower

Sterling Heights has been home to public art for decades, and since 2018 began investing in murals, with input from the Sterling Heights Arts Commission, to bring art, color and creativity to formerly blank or uninspiring facades throughout the City.

The City intends to remove two of the three clock faces (specifically the North and South facing ones) from the Clock Tower at Fire Station #1, located on Van Dyke Avenue at 17 Mile Road. The faces are 60” diameter circles and will be replaced with two distinct artistic designs. These designs, when put up, will be backlit to ensure visibility during nighttime hours. Fire Chief Kevin Edmond and his assistant fire chiefs have expressed their desire for the designs to draw inspiration from the Sterling Heights Fire Department, potentially incorporating elements from the Fire Patch and the Fireman and Child Statue located in the front of Fire Station #1. The chosen design will be replicated onto clear, polycarbonate lexan sheets .
