15 Mile Road Mid Block Pedestrian Crossing, East of Cavant Drive

This City of Sterling Heights project has started a project to install a pedestrian crossing on 15 Mile Road east of Cavant Drive.  The project include the installation of the pedestrian crossing, installation of Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons, associated signage and pavement markings.  The crossing will be similar in construction to the crossing installed on 15 Mile Road east of Van Dyke.

The work requires lane closures in each direction of 15 Mile Road to complete the installation. Currently the three center lanes are closed as of November 30th.

Mound Road Reconstruction – INNOVATE MOUND

The Innovate Mound project will includes reconstruction of Mound Road from M-59 to I-696.   The project started in August 2021 with construction completion anticipated in the Summer of 2024.  Please see below for project information, construction updates and to subscribe to the Innovate Mound newsletter. 

Segment II of Innovate Mound reconstruction is currently underway. Two northbound lanes of Mound Road between 11 Mile Road and Metropolitan Parkway and two southbound lanes of Mound Road between 14 Mile Road and Metropolitan Parkway will be closed with traffic shifting to temporary pavement lanes.

WB 17 Mile Road, east of Mound Road, will be reduced to one lane starting Monday, November 6 and will remain closed until November 20 to reconstruct the driveway to the Ford Sterling Axle Plant east of Mound Road.

One through lane and right turn lane will be maintained as vehicular traffic approaches NB Mound Road. As traffic travels through the intersection, traffic will return to two lanes between Mound Road and Ryan Road. 

Landscape installation is currently underway with intermittent lane closures in the City of Sterling Heights.

Macomb Interceptor Drain Rehabilitation Project 

The Macomb County Department of Public Works will be performing rehabilitation work on the Macomb Interceptor located along 15 Mile Road between the ITC corridor and Hayes Road.

Temporary lane closures are as follows

  1. The partial closure of the 15 Mile/Hayes Road intersection to allow workers to access a manhole near Hayes Road on 15 Mile.
  2. The partial closure of 15 Mile Road will begin at Morningdale Drive (west end) and terminate near Hidden Pine Drive (east end).

 These closures will occur from mid-August 2022 through Winter 2023.

Additionally, the East Half of the Fontana Drive Boulevard is closed.  Access to Fontana Drive will be maintained on the west half of the boulevard entrance with two-way traffic. Please see the letter below for additional information.

Maple Lane Drive Resurfacing, Volpe Drive to Red Run Drain Bridge (Open to Traffic)

This City of Sterling Heights project will begin a project to resurface Maple Lane Drive between Volpe Drive and the Red Run Drain Bridge begining Monday, Octrober 9.  The project will purlverize and reconstruct the asphalt portion of the road, maintaining the current road width.  Only one-way northbound Maple Lane Drive traffic will be maintained betwen 14 and 15 mile road with southbound traffic detoured.

Additionally, this project will also close the sidewalk gaps on the east side of Maple Lane Drive from 14 Mile Road to 15 Mile Road via concrete sidewalk installation.  

Roadway paving on Maple Lane is complete and the road has re-opened to two-way traffic. 

Work continues on the diching, grading and sidewalk installation.  That work will continue as the weather permits.  Final completion and restoration will occur in the Spring of 2024.

Plumbrook Road Improvements: Van Dyke to Utica Road (Open to Traffic)

The City of Sterling Heights is reconstructing Plumbrook Road between Van Dyke Avenue and Utica Road in the Spring of 2023.  This project will include a newly paved asphalt roadway, public utility improvement, installation of bike lanes from 17 Mile Road to Utica Road, completion of sidewalk gaps for better pedestrian connectivity, and other aesthetic improvements.  Plan renderings are available for the project Plumbrook Road (West Half) Van Dyke Avenue to the ITC corridor and Plumbrook Road (East Half) ITC corridor to Utica road showing the proposed improvements.  

Plumbrook Road paving is complete and has reopened to traffic.  The items that remain this Fall include the mast arm signal installation at 17 Mile Road/Plumbrook Road intersection and the planting of street trees.  These operations will be completed under intermittent daily traffic control and two-way traffic will remain open. 

This winter additional street lighting will be added to approximately 15 locations along the entire stretch of roadway and the new bike lanes will be painted and opened in the Spring of 2024.

Ryan Road Resurfacing, Metro Parkway to 18 Mile Road (Complete)

The City of Sterling Heights completed a federally funded project to resurface Ryan Road from Metro Parkway to 18 Mile Road.  The project included curb repairs, roadway base repairs, milling of the existing 5-lane pavement and an asphalt overlay.  Sidewalk installation will also occur to close the existing gaps in the network.  

The Ryan Road resurfacing project is substantially complete and fully open to traffic.  Minor work items remain that will be completed under intermittent daily lane closures as needed.

Metro Parkway Resurfacing, Ryan Road to Mound Road (Complete)

The Macomb County Department of Roads (MCDR) will begin a project to resurface Metro Parkway from Ryan Road to Mound Road on Monday, July 24.  To enable construction, both direction of Metro Parkway will be reduced to one through lane in each direction for the duration of the project.  The project is anticipated to last into November of this year and abut the end of the construction season.  The local road approaches along this stretch of roadway will be reconstructed as well ith closures alternated to maintain access to subdivisions.

Work on Metropolitan Parkway (16 Mile Road) between Mound Road and Ryan Road in Sterling Heights is complete and the road is fully open to traffic as of November 15th.  Any minor punchlist items will be completed with short term lane closures.

Schoenherr Road Resurfacing, South of Canal Road to M-59 (Hall Road) (Complete)

The Macomb County Department of Roads complete resurfacing of Schoenherr Road, from 500 feet south of Canal Road to Hall Road (M-59) in Sterling Heights.  The project is now substantially complete and open to traffic as of August 29.

Metro Parkway Concrete Repairs, Dodge Park Road to Schoenherr Road  (Complete)

The Macomb County Department of Roads (MCDR) completed concrete repairs on Metro Parkway between Dodge Park Road and east of Schoenherr Road. The contractor was DiLisio Construction.  The MCDR can be reached at (586)-463-8671.

14 Mile Road Resurfacing, Hayes Road to Maple Lane Road (Complete)

The Macomb County Department of Roads (MCDR) completed a project to resurface 14 Mile Road, from Hayes Road to west of Maple Lane Road.  The 14 Mile Road is substantially complete and all lanes are open to traffic as well as all turning movements.   Intermittent daily lane closures will sparingly remain to compete punch list items and the remaining minor work. The contractor was Cadillac Asphalt.
