Recreation Passports

"Recreation Passports" are available for all Sterling Heights residents under the age of 18 when they are accompanied by a non-resident caregiver, permitting use of the Ice Rink at the resident rate of $0. The parent/guardian must show proof of residency to obtain a Recreation Passport.

Please note that the non-resident caregiver will still be required to pay the $5 fee if choosing to use the Ice Rink.

Passports are valid January 1 through December 31 each year. New passports will be required every calendar year. The Passports may also be used at our splash pad during the summer months.

Sterling Heights "Recreation Passport" applications are available at the Parks and Recreation office inside the Community Center (40250 Dodge Park Rd.) Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Proof of residency is required with application.

Please contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 586-446-2700 for more information.

Inclement Weather Policy

The Sterling Heights Parks and Recreation Department strives to keep recreation programs and amenities available at all times for our residents.  Occasionally, we will be required to divert from this philosophy when uncontrollable factors compromise the safety of our patrons and staff or the quality of the facilities themselves.

The Sterling Heights Parks and Recreation Department may delay opening or close the ice rink under the following circumstances:

  1. During a severe snow/ice event in order to make the parking lot and surrounding areas safe for patrons.
  2. When the wind chill index reaches -15 degrees.
  3. The air temperature reaches -15 degrees or colder.
  4. Unseasonably warm temperatures soften and begin melting the ice.

As our goal will always be to stay open and be accessible to our residents, delays or closures may be short in nature or may remain for the full day.  Please check the Ice Rink Weather Hotline at 586-446-2711 for up to date information on all days prior to coming to the rink, and especially on days where inclement weather is pending or exists.
